Betina was named after the celtic word "bet" which means mouth as it perfectly describes its location. It is situated on the island of Murter and is only 7km far from Tisno where the bridge connects the island with the mainland. Betina is situated in a small harbour on the peninsula. It was founded in the 15th ct. by the refugees from the mainland who fled in front of the Turks. Betina is dominated by the parish church of St.Francis built at the beginning of the 17th ct. It was enlarged several times and in the 18th ct. the bell tower was built. Not far from Betina, on the hill of Gradina a medieval church of Our Lady of Gradina is preserved. Besides for the traditional activities, fishing and agriculture, the inhabitants of Betina are well known shipbuilders. As early as in 1848 a shipyard was opened with the purpose to build big wooden ships. Continuing that tradition in Betina there is still a shipyard with the same name but nowaday sports and fishing boats are built here. In Betina there is also a modern marina with modern appliances for yacht berthing and servicing and there are 100 berthing places and 200 places on the marina premises. The people from Betina deal with tourism for some time and there are 400 beds in private accomodation, 1600 places in camp site, you can rent a boat, you can enjoy in various cultural programmes and especially in always fresh fish on the menues of the local restaurants. By its simple and cordial hospitality and by the various offers, Betina has become a place for peaceful and pleasant holiday for thousands of tourists.
